HOF

Ok, so we started HOPDG as we were miffed at the HOF, and for the most part, it has developed pretty darn good (pun intended.) However, I recently read where someone wrote “the HOF is meant to identify the people whom you could not tell the story of the sport/music/etc. WITHOUT including them. I thought about this, and reviewed our nominees and inductees. Do all off these people deserve HOF enshrinement- not even close! Do they deserve enshrinement with HOPDG—absolutely! SO the question I pose is this: if HOF= story of the genre, then what does HOPDG equal?

Grateful for Voters

I’ve spent the evening entering votes from otters and I have to tell you something—I Iove it! I like seeing the otters take action for their nominees and make this as compelling as it can be! It isn’t always votes for the leaders either; sometimes someone comes out of nowhere and becomes a presence in the election! Then I get the thrill of reporting this to the otters, some of which really do watch what happens with the votes!

Please keep it coming!!!!!

Tickets

So I am waiting in “virtual line” for Coldplay tickets for my kid, and it makes me think of the days when you had to stand IN A LINE to get tickets…and it was typically outside in the cold! And when you got to your turn, you got ACTUAL TICKETS (To which I still have the stubbs to this day!)

I feel for the kids who do not get to experience the bonding of people in line as we talked about the artists we are freezing to see. They don’t get to meet their fellow music fans, except maybe in social media, but that aint the same, yknow. You aint sipping coffee/cocoa to stay warm online, you aint taking time to save the others persons spot so they can go to the bathroom…no true bonding. And then there was the re-meeting of them at the concert because they bought the tickets next to you!

Yah, technology is nice, but sometime you sacrifice things sometimes too.

Candidates

As commissioner, I know who is in the HOF and who has been knocking in the door to get in for some time. IT’S PRETY DARN EASY (PUN!) to compose a list of the top people who should be in a HOF in our different categories. However, as we enter our second year, we have taken the cream of the crop and inducted them. Sure, there might be a few stragglers in each category who are easy pickings, but that list will dwindle.

So who do we nominate? Otters suggest people throughout the sessions, and that is helpful, but we are going to try a new technique: eliminate the obvious. For example, there are some people who are simply not even good enough for HOPDG, much less HOF. However, by naming them, it shows everyone that we are indeed open minded to different suggestions. It also allows me to confirm that my initial opinion about a given candidate possibility was indeed correct. (Oh, I’ve been wrong about this a few times!)

Thus, you will see some names that might make you go “He’s got to be kidding!” I’m not, just being thorough.

Hi,

To start, I forgot that I added a Blog to the page, and I am very sorry to have been a blog tease!

We started a podcast, and I am hoping to get the technological stuff out of the way as so I can start interviewing otters!

I doubt it will happen, but I would love to see a Seattle/Milwaukee world series!

More to come soon!

Simone Biles

My take on Simone Biles taking herself out of the Olympics:

Look, none of us are ever going to know what the pressure is like for someone in that situation. Furthermore, she is a professional athlete, and this is what she does, and this is the largest stage to do what she does.

These people are trained to deal with crowd noise, but was she trained to deal WITHOUT crowd noise? I have performed many times in many things, and I recall very well the 2 times I didn’t receive ANY crowd acknowledgement from my performance. I was distraught, confused, doubted everything I had done and ran the entire presentation through my mind…and this was just in front of an audience of FORTY!

Imagine if the Beatles went out to a stadium and performed “I Saw Her Standing There” and no one was in the stands, no one applauded—NOTHING (except for a few grounds people off to the side.) This is just what Simone endured, except she was already under the pressure of none of her family there, a surreal Olympics, and a BILLION PEOPLE WATCHING ON TV!

It was unfortunate timing, and we will never know what was going through her head when she decided to stop, but sometimes being a human being pops up in the worst time when we need to be a human doing, and I believe that is what happened here.

So this is a new blog, of which I had a platform here, but was new at this website stuff. Anyhow, we got one going now.

This has taken off! We are going to be at 5000 otters very soon! This is NOT what I envisioned when creating HOPDG, but we must have tapped into a vein. (Or a lot of pissed of people at HOF’s!)

Keeping it short and sweet tonight- TTFN!
